I am looking to buy a 1" tube scope for a .22 LR rimfire for plinking & squirrel hunting. A straight 4x or 6x would work or I would go for a low power variable possibly up to a 2-7x.. Wanting a Japanese made riflescope, not Chinese, Taiwan or Philipines. (finding a used Bushnell Elite would be great) Will NOT buy Leupold so no need to mention them. What are my options ?

When you exclude the Philippines, you cut out a lot of options. Fixed 4s, fixed 6s, and 2-7s are on the way out it seems. I bit my tongue not long ago and bought a Leupold 4x rimfire for an old Marlin I found. Had all the usual fun getting it dialed in, but it’s a perfect fit, so I’m sweating it. Doug had them for $200 at that time.
I bought a Weaver V7 2.5-7 RF for my CZ 455, but haven’t found any new ones in a while. Very nice scope for the purpose if you can find one; maybe a good used one?
Good luck.
What fresh Hell is this?

Well it may be hard to find something not chink**** in that category anymore. They aren't all that bad and the workers, if its a political decision, some of them are very hard working and fairly honest. So if that breaks down the aversion, may i suggest a sniper P4 by NCstar or their current maker, or if you can handle weight a Pride-Fowler FFP 3-12 rimfire. I have a Pride Fowler on my nice gun and it is plenty good for shooting a quarter at 50yd if you do your part. I like the ranging reticle on it, is why I bought it.

Man... with your restrictions I can't think of much...
SWFA Utralight comes close but higher magnification
Leupold is a no go so.... but for a rimfire why not???
You could do a trijicon 3-9, accupoint or credo
Discontinued scopes are probably the only thing that meets all of your criteria.. Japanese Weaver 1-3, 2-7?
Oh wait, I just thought of one! Vortex Razor HD LH 1.5-8x32... but discontinued, dang it!!

Japlvr: Suck it up and find a Leupold "Rimfire" scope! I own and Hunt/plink with several rimfire Rifles so equipped. In my experience they are hard if not impossible to beat, for the money, and the reliability. Long live Leupold & Stevens Corporation - a fine American company. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Yes they were. One of my favorite rimfire scopes. They work great on a Marlin model 60.

If you can find one, a Sightron SII 3-9X36 A.O. EFR would be ideal. Japan mfgd, excellent glass and repeatable tracking. -Al

The weaver 2-7 rimfire I have is made in Japan.

Tract rimfire scope GreggH This is worth checking out. I've haven't looked through one, but Tract has a good reputation and I believe they are made in Japan. They are made in 3-9 and 4-12, maybe more magnification than you are looking for, but I've found that on rimfires, a little extra magnification is nice.

If you don't want or need an adjustable objective, the Sightron 3-9X32 RF is what I'd buy. At 12 oz, it's perfect for a nice little sporter rimfire rifle. I was impressed with the one I mounted on a pal's CZ a couple months back. Doug at Cameraland has them at very reasonable prices. A whole lot of scope for the money! Good shootin'. -Al https://cameralandny.com/shop/brand...0139-26ba-00163e90e196?variation=3072562
