Bob,
That rifle didn’t come out of northern Minnesota by any chance? Last couple times I was up that way I stopped by several LGS and they had some just like that sitting in the used gun racks.

Good evening to you sir, I'm going to dispense with my usual salutation as I'm thinking at present you're fine a frog's hair! cool

Thanks for sharing the hunt with us and the photo.

I'm curious if you know about the history of that 95?

We see a few of them up here across the medicine line as well as the .30-40 as they were considered a grand arm among the experienced mountain hunters in these parts about a century ago from what I can glean.

Regardless sir, what a grand buck with a fine, fine arm!

Thanks again and all the best.

Dwayne

Thanks again all. This rifle was purchased from Bill Goodman up in Bozeman several years ago by my old and late compadre. I purchased it from his estate.

As a sidenote to this hunt. I made a surprise gift to my oldest son of this old standard rifle in .30 Army this past weekend. He was the original owner 10-15 odd years ago and he disposed of it during some lean times. Long story short. I ended up with it and felt he needed it back. I do know some of the history of it. It was off a ranch in Live Oak county Texas. Old cowboy ranch rifle. 4 notches on the wrist for deer. And a slight dark spot next to buttplate on one side where it set too close to a fire. Neat old rifle he will keep for a while I sure.

This was the rifle I was holding in the photo on pg 243 of the new Winchester 1895 book.

Great buck! Love the picture with the classic old rifle. Nothing quite like a nice '95!
Congratulations and good shooting!
I like your "last bite".
And, in the future it is always ok to smile when your picture is taken with such a fine animal!!
