Going to look at one in 30/06 this weekend. Wood stock, blued metal. Looking for info and thoughts? He only wants $250 which sound like a steal. I figure it's worth that even if the stock is scratched and dinged all over....

Most likely Howa, good shooters. You can even reload for it 😀

As mentioned, probably a Howa. My late uncle had. S&W 1500 in .308 Win. He killed more white tails than anyone else I know and all with his S&W 1500.

So I got a bunch of pics and it looks nice. It is a Model 1500 and it was built by Howa. There was a recall for the bolt due to firing upon chambering a round. I called S&W and they referred me to Howa. The recall is still active and free of charge. Once I get the gun just call them back to get a box and label sent to me to have the bolt repaired or replaced.

I bought it. It's not perfect but still very nice. Ordered a new Redfield Rebel 4-12x40.

Did a quick, rough sight in. The scope is bright and clear even on 12x. The click adjustments are positive. I'd compare the glass to a Leupold Rifleman which is just fine for the average hunter.

I have the S&W 1700LS in 243, it shoots great even with factory ammo. Wish I could have bought the 30-06 before they quit making them. Daniel

That, sir, was a steal.
Congratulations.

Love my S&W 1500 in .358 Winchester. Got it for a song because the barrel was unmarked and the pawn shop that had it couldn't tell me what cartridge it fired. So I says to myself ".358 bore; short action; what's not to love?" and bought it. Put a Leupold VX-R in some 30mm Talleys and took it hunting!

Howa has repaired the bolt and shipped it back. Expecting it any day now...
