Yep - Read The Fleet at Flood Tide by the same author. Also excellent. https://www.navyhistory.org/2017/01...a-at-total-war-in-the-pacific-1944-1945/

Went thru the drive thru teller at the bank during lunch today. A sign was prominently posted saying the bank would be closed in observance of Veterans Day, 11/11. I ask the teller if she was a veteran. She replied "No." Then I asked how was it that as a 20yr plus vet, I had to work and she got the day off? The look of dumb-foundment on her face was priceless.
I never thought I'd grow up to be a grumpy old man, but I did, and I'm killin' it.

I took the oath over 40 years ago and will honor it until I am no longer breathing. Happy veterans day to all the vets here and all across the USA.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

The county is letting me off for the day. No pay and no benefits but I get the day off. I guess that 24 years paid off after all.

If you have ever served, no matter when, in which service, or for how long, you are my brothers and sisters. You raised your hand and pledged your life to protect and defend your country. Know that no matter how loudly others may bray their support for the USA, they have done nothing to actually defend it. You have. You are the honorable one percenters.
Nothing makes me prouder than to be among you and I salute you all.
Remember one more thing: our work is never done. Well, I served in the Coast Guard, so I don't really count, but I am going to run all over town tomorrow getting free food!

Thanks to all who have served along side. We still have a duty to honor our pledge to protect this country. Especially now days.
