Howdy,
I have been a 99 lover for many years as my first hunting rifle was a 99E 243. Dad broke me in many years ago. I still have that rifle, but have always wanted to expand my collection. Last year I was able to buy a 99T....from what I gater reading your posts....serial number 3901xx for under $750.
As I am new to buying these old guns I would like some criticism/information on this gun. I will take some pictures and post them.
From reading the previous posts, I believe that it has the original rear sights. However, I am confused about the front sights, because I do not see a red dot. Is this because of age? I am pretty sure that the wood is original, but I don't know about the blueing, as it looks so good? Please give me some input? Have I purchased a shooter...or a collector?
Thanks in advance for the information?

Dang, a newbie with a great rifle AND the intelligence to know he needs to order Murray's. Hang around Reloader, we need more like you. Check out the pics section at www.savagela.org, you'll see lots of models and sample rifles. In case you haven't figured it out, the 99T in 250-3000 is one of the great collectible 99's. Take care of that one. Welcome to the forum!

From the Savage99.com website, I get a date of manufacture of 1940? Is this correct? Also, is this gun to "new" to get it lettered?

Wow,that's a sweetheart. Oil it up,and put in the safe.

Okay, now I really want to make sure that it is properly taken care of. I usually use the furniture oil "Liquid Gold" to "oil" up my guns before putting them in the safe. However, would you guys suggest anything better to use so that I do not inadvertantly screw up the value of this gun?

I like Old West Snake Oil. They have a website I believe. Someone here has it. I shoulda clarified...if that were my rifle...the price would be 5K.
