I was not feeling great this morn so skipped the gun show near me. The last few I’ve gone to were a waste of time if a person was looking for something at a reasonable price.

Alternative is Ithaca 37/87 with exception of police/military extended tube models which for some reason bring a premium. Best buys will be found on Ithaca made guns form the 1970s ie those with pressed checkering and fixed choke barrels. Those made later at King Ferry and now in Upper Sadusky Ohio are nice but heaver because they are made on 3" receivers and have VR with choke tubes (require slightly thicker barrel). Those from before late 1960s make best bird guns because they are lightest and have best handling characteristics.
When dealing with Remington 870s. You will want later production ones with Light Contour barrels, cut checkering and deep blackened finish that resists oxidation very well. Another good pick are 20ga guns with mahogany stocks made for about a decade in 1970s. Ocasionally you will come across limited production guns like upland specials with shorter barrels and straight grip stock (not preferable with single trigger gun design).

I decided to quit wasting my time going to gun shows some years ago while being at the last one I attended and coming to the realization that Whittaker's Guns had more and a better selection of all types of new and used guns, same for ammo and related shooting / hunting gear, and much more realistic pricing.

The ONLY Gun Show worth going to anymore is the big Tulsa Show.

If I do go nowadays, it’s just to look at custom knifes.

Great to hear, you would have been the 49ers that showed up in 51. Always bitching and never finding the mother lode.

If you guys hunted for elk, you would probably bitch that there weren’t any by the road.
