This new PMC company is producing some hot ammo.
I bought a box of this to compare with some other factory loads to test for accuracy when I was looking for a factory 44 mag load to use in my Ruger M77-44 for deer hunting.
My reloading equipment has been in totes for the last three years due to multiple moves.
The claimed velocity on the box is 1497 fps with the 240gr tcsp (truncated cone soft point)..
In comparison, Hornady Custom 240gr XTP has a claimed velocity of 1350 fps.
My chronograph is still packed away so I couldn’t verify these velocities, but recoil difference is a pretty good indicator.
The PMC load is hot. With significantly more recoil than any of the other loads I tried.
Shooting it in my Smith M-629 Classic 5” was distinctly sharper in recoil and flattened primers.
After a couple of cylinders full I have the feeling that it’s best in a stronger/tougher handgun like a Redhawk. Not that this load would destroy the M-629, but it’s hotter than I would prefer for extended use. I know there are guys that will claim that they’ve shot thousands of hot rounds through their Smith 29’s and never had a problem with them loosening up. Thats fine, you do you. I had a number of very experienced folks shoot this load through my 629 Classic and all of them remarked that they would not use this in a Smith.
Since the advent of piezo transducers for pressure measuring, most ammunition companies have backed off on loads to more sensible pressures. It surprises me that PMC loads this to such high pressure.
When my reloading room is finished I will go back to reloading my hunting ammo, but having to use factory ammunition for the past three years, has been an eye opener.
Anyway, this is just a post about something other than the anger inducing bullcrap that’s been dominating the news and this forum.

Most of advertised velocity's are done based on a 8" or 12" barrel. If you didn't die they are probably fine. I run all my .44 mag loads with H110 at book max, I think my 2.5" tracker was shooting 240gr at about 900fps and my 4" 629 was about 1100 fps. So length matters.

I shoot 265 and 270 gr , 7.5 and 10" black hawks, and a b92 20"... the 7.5 always has the lowest vand the 10 and 20 are so close that it don't make a difference...1400+ to ...

I thought I had heard they went out of business sometime in the early 2000’s.
Never saw them again here in Michigan and a few other states. I just put the them in the past.
My mistake.
Barrel length wasn’t listed.
Recoil and blast pretty much agreed on that 150 fps difference

It reminded me of the first two factory loaded 454 in my new Freedom Arms M-83.
I had been shooting 340gr SSK .452” over 21-1/2gr WW 296/CCI 350 since the early 80’s in a Blackhawk in a 45 Colt Blackhawk.
The first shot in the 454 was a Magtec 300 jsp.
Dang! This isn’t as bad as I expected. It’s not much more than those 45 Colt 340’s.
Hah!
After a couple cylinders of Magtec
I switched to Winchester silver box 300 gr jsp or jhp I can’t remember.
Now this Winchester stuff is a significant increase in thump! Especially the base of the thumb.
I found my limit in the 454 with some 325 gr LFN over a significant amount of 296. It was as much as I could handle and not develop a flinch. Hah! All the hard recoiling calibers are flinch inducers . Honestly it was past practical due to recoil pulled bullets tying the gun up. Using a 44 expander for the mouth flare on the cases helped the hottest loads with neck tension. That same 325 LFN slowed down to 1200-1250 were accurate and much more pleasant to shoot. It also penetrated way deep.
Eventually arthritis made me give up the 454 the the beloved 480 Ruger.
Today the 41 and 44 magnums are where I reside.
It was interesting to see the difference between the XTP and the PMC’s and it reminded me of decades past.
