Recently replaced a 7 year old battery in my Tacoma that didn't die yet but was testing poorly. Local independent garage owner that I've known for years got me an Interstate battery. Says he's been selling them for years and they have been great, and this guy is no B.S. artist.
I just replaced a pair of 10 1/2 year old motorcraft batteries (original) in my superduty.
Called NAPA, Carquest, O’reilly, and priced the Chinese embassy. Walmart had the best price (Johnson control).
Just for shîts and giggles, I called the local blue oval. They beat Walmart by 6 bucks each.
And, in spite of what Eddie at the Ford parts counter says, motorcraft doesn’t make the batteries. They are JC same as WM. Both are the “Max” 3 year warranty battery.
I have to say that is surprising. Ford isn't known for having the best price on parts.
and they all manufacture batteries per their client's specs.
Given the cost to shut down/start up production, I question if that's the case or not.
Does Walmart make their own batteries? How about Costco? Do they manufacture Kirkland batteries?
Doubt it. They give their specs to a battery manufacturer, and the manufacturer actually produces them, no?
I would say the battery manufacturers are not making a thousand and one differently speced batteries for all of the different retailers they sell to. It's more plausible to me they produce what they produce and the product gets labeled appropriately for each retailer.

Depends on the product and retailer. I know of some mfg's that most definitely make product to a different spec for retailers and not just change the label.
