Great buck - I love big 4x4’s and your has a kicker for some extra cool points. Hopefully your dad can find a worthy buck while the grandson is along.

Well the last 4 days have been pretty uneventful. Weather has been a rollercoaster of hot and cold, nights have been clear with that big moon shining, and the wind has been screaming, not great hunting conditions. But hey, it’s only rifle season for two weeks a year so you might as well get out there.

Dude had to have the Fred Bear treatment for his hat. 😀

Dad and my Uncle have both shot a pig, and seen a few decent bucks but no good shooters that were within striking distance. We sat and watched two raghorn bull elk fight for half an hour and watched a big 6x6 feeding and doing his thing for an hour or so. Of course only cows are open until Dec. 🤦‍♂️

We did have this guy cruise past looking for love, watched him come from half a mile to 15 yards when I snapped this pic. Momma gave him a pass so he could grow. [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

We’re going to keep after them and hopefully there’ll be updates as the bucks hit the ground.

Another one hit the dirt this evening. As perfectly executed as a stalk can be with a noisy 6 year old in tow followed by an excellent shot by Mom. She laid prone over my pack and put one right through the goodies from 275 or so. I watched in the glasses as he jumped about 4 foot before crashing on his brisket and rolling down the hill, calm winds made for an impressive “Whack!”, when the bullet landed and I could tell by the sound it was a solid hit. 4” behind the shoulder midway up the chest to exit at the base of his neck. Same old 270Wby I shot mine with shooting 130 Sciroccos at 3500, I had no prior experience with these bullets but they’re pretty impressive on my sample of 2 so far.

Best part was that we were all together and my parents made the hike over from their sitting spot to check him out and help me load him up.

I went back for the wheeler down at the cabin and we soon had him loaded up and strapped down, sure glad my arms didn’t fall off with no power steering and all. 😉 [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]
As we bounced down the hill I looked over a couple ridges to see a really nice buck standing on top feeding and just easing around. As I watch he suddenly beds down, right out on the side of the ridge in some 3” tall buffalo grass. We motored on out of sight behind the crest of a hill and frantically waved my dad over to plan a sneak. It worked to perfection, we crawled to the top to peak over and he was still bedded about 150 yards away. Unfortunately we were losing the light and he was at a bad angle for a shot, we thought we were going to have a twofer but in the end Dad just couldn’t be sure of a good shot and decided to let him go and try to catch up with him another time. Maybe tomorrow he’ll be close by. [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc] Waiting for the Gramps to take the shot.
