Looking through my ammo I found a couple boxes of Federal premium 7mm08 140 nosler solid base. I didnt see anything listed on noslers site.
What are these ? Are they like a SGK or a partition

Damn good bullets.
A bud still has some 30-06 150 grain bullets I loaded for him.
We also had good luck with the .277 130 grain.

This is the bullet Nosler replaced with the NBT.
Heavy jacketed cup and core. Very good bullets.

I killed a number of animals with the original Solid Bases, in calibers from 6mm to .30, and found them relatively tough. They didn't expand nearly as well as Partition at velocities under 3000 fps, because the core was pretty hard, and the front core of Partitions is relatively soft. But at 3000+ fps they worked very well, and the few recovered retained about as much weight as Partitions.

They are a tough bullet.
I have several for a few rifles that i own.
They were it before the Ballistic tip i believe.

When the Nosler Solid base came out I shot them out of a 30.06 because they were about half price of the Nosler Partitions. Partitions came 50 to a box and the Solid base came 100 to a box..never had a deer I shot with them live long enough to complain. Like Partitions the lead noses dented in the magazine box. When the Ballistic tip came out I shot them mainly because the tip showed no damage in the magazine box.
I had a .308 bofers steel Sako it shot to the same point of impact 3" high at 100 yards with a 150 gr. Partition or a 150 gr. Ballistic tip...same powder charge. I have a lot of faith in a Nosler Partition so in my barrel I loaded a Partician with Ballistic Tips in the magazine box. Late one afternoon a doe came out close to 300 yards away....held top of the back what I call the hair line up from the shoulder.....boom deer just stood there. I loaded another shell (a Ballistic tip)....same hold boom deer dropped in it's tracks it was hit it high shoulder below the spine.
I knew I had a perfect hold when I made the first shot....a day or two later I had a target at 300 yards. I forget the exact drop but as I recall it was close to double with the Partition That made a believer out of me and after that I shot Ballistic tips in all my guns except the .243.

Cut him some slack, he’s from Tennessee.
Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

Back in the late 80s a gun shop had a going out of business sale on reloading supplies. A friend bought it all and let me buy what I wanted. There was 4/100 rnd. boxes of 180 grain .30 cal. Nosler Solid Base that I got. I killed everything, with my newly purchased M70 Featherweight '06, from coyotes to my best, at the time, W/T buck to my best ever bull elk with them. They never disappointed!

I also found them a little stout for shooting deer with the 2700fps cartridges I was using at the time. I then switched to ballistic tips when they came out and they were bombs, so I went to the partition for the next 20+ years.

I shot a number of mule deer with them. Core and jacket separated frequently but the core penetrated well. They were tougher than the original BTs which isn’t saying much. As far as toughness, I would rate them as in between SGK (depending on weight) and Hornady Interlocs. I was able to get good accuracy. If they were still available, I’d use them with confidence on deer and hogs.

I still have a few in different calibres;
.243 85gn .257 100gn (just about gone) - very good performance from my .257 Roberts on solid boars. .264 120gn - was going to load them in my 6.5x47 (around 2750fps) .284 120gn - not sure what to do with them? .308 180gn - 30-06 I guess
I just missed three boxes of 7mm 140gn which was a shame.
