If he was talking basketball ball and if I was interested in basketball I might pay attention to him. When he talks politics his opinion carries no more weight than anyone else's. I'd probably pay more attention to what my garbage man had to say about current events then him.
I spent a few weekends playing wing man and going to parties with an NBA ball player who played for the Timberwolves. He used to come pick me up in his escalade and take me to parties. One time I asked him why he takes me when so many other people would love to go. I said I don't give a crap about basketball. He said that's why he liked hanging out with me. He said to everyone else he was just an NBA player. He said with me he gets to be a normal person.
It was kind of fun rolling with him just because of all the hot women he attracted. It never really paid off for me though. Most thought I was his body guard they would surround him and ignore me.
Old mad dog was a pretty decent dude for a baller. Last I heard he was an assistant coach for LA. Even the best ball players are still human with lots of faults and no better than most others when it comes to anything but their game.
