I have a left side non reciprocal side charger. Ergonomically, I love it. Prefer it over a standard AR. Mine shoots great. No issues. Pic.

One thing the BCG won't have any parts that transfer to the more common versions. If it were a 458 SOCOM or a 450 Bushmaster that wouldn't matter but if it were a 5.56 it might.

Like the looks of the ones like Alexander Arms sells on some of their rifles.

Some of the side-chargers require removal of the charging handle to remove the BCG.
I wouldn't be too keen on that.

I wouldn't be too keen on that. I have several side chargers, all mine require removal of the charge handle to remove the BCG............no big deal

Seems like they would be more susceptible to dirt/mud.

I have a couple Cross Hill and several Gibbz / New Frontier. Cross Hills have a reciprocating bolt, you have to be aware of hand placement. They cost more and they don't have the dust cover but I really like all of mine.

I like the AR180 style of upper. Piston action, not DI

I have a side charging upper in 7.62x39 and it’s performed flawlessly. I’ve only got about 500 rounds through it but it’s been perfect so far. I like the ergonomics of it especially when using a scope.
