Paid off a bunch of debt over the last five years, decent credit, got an offer in the mail.
An old joke goes a sure way to meet women is wear your American Express Platinum Card on a gold chain around your neck 🙂
I already got enough credit cards, but seriously, WTF? $685/year, what am I missing here?

I can see a certain segment of the population falling for it. They'll just have to put off a couple of tennis shoe purchases until next year.

If you Fly a lot with layover, you get access to the platinum lounge in selected airports. Well worth the 685/yr.

Correct. I addition to excellent dispute customer service, Concierge to arrange travel, restaurant, last minute gift purchases, you are automatically enrolled in MEDJET should you ever need it. And you do get points for purchases, travel, etc. Lastly AMEX is NOT a credit card...
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”

Yep, I have one through business. The concierge is great and I try to remember to use it more often than I do, but the access to the private lounges is worth the $685.

"we will let you borrow money at exorbitant rates and we will make thousands off you every year and charge you for it. The "free" drinks works out to $200 each..."
Well gee I can't use a calculator so here's $685...

Next...pay for being mugged...? It's interest up front. That's all interest is - paying for the privilege of using credit.

Most people with a gold card aren’t worried about the cost.

So it seems there are actual, real world perks to having the card. Also many again fail to realize that for a multitude of people, $685 is chump change
She never made it past the bedroom door, what was she aiming for...? She's gone shootin..

Most people with a gold card aren’t worried about the cost. And less so if it’s “platinum”, which is what we are talking about
