It costs tons of money to maintain the over age 60 people in this country and the rest of the citizenry receives little to no benefit from this segment of the population. Since the huge decline in smoking and better treatment for chronic ailments the Social Security system and Medicare/Medicaid are in a terribly insolvent condition. Smoking saved SS for a few decades but the anti-smoking campaign worked to extend life expectancy many years beyond what was planned for when SS was set up. Couple that with good medicines for chronic disease and a low birth rate and you can come up with the motive for the government needing to off older people like me. People that are tying up resources.
