I have an older Thompson Center Hawken .50 cal. Ghat needs to barrel refurbished. Any recommendations?
Not damaged but neglected some. Rusting and fouling mostly.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Call Bobby Hoyt, (717) 642-6696. He is located in Pennsylvania and the earlier in the day you can call him the better. Cost will probably be $150-$200 ,depending on what you want, plus shipping. Bobby does top notch work.

Mr. Hoyt is the man. His shop is next town over from Gettysburg. Tough to get ahold of him because he runs the machine 95% of the times, and does not have dedicated phone time.

Before doing anything, I would give it a good cleaning, to see exactly where it is at. A coat of Dyna-Tek just might fix you up.
Then I would push a Maxi-ball or the like of a full diameter lead bullet down the bore, and see how tight it fits.I say this because I am on the 3rd barrel of a 1976 TC Hawkin . It didn't take heck of a lot to wear them out so a maxi- ball would almost drop all the way down with pushing.. The last replacement TC said they had very few barrels left . If it is worn,it wouldn't be worth putting money into .Might look at a new from Track Of The Wolf.

clean it good with ballistol and water. 10 parts water to one ballistol.
then wrap some oooo steel wool around a 45 cal brush and scrub the bore 50-100 times.
clean again as above.
if it is worn to the point there is no rifling left you can just shoot it as a smoothbore. increase your patch thickness or decrease as needed for accuracy.
never had a barrel i couldn't use one way or the other.
if you can't redeem it send it to Bobby. have him turn it into a .54

Another vote for Robert Hoyt. He is spoken of very highly on muzzleloading forum.
