No, I didn't pull the trigger on a Booner today, nor even the basket-rack 10 pointer that likes to pose broadside.

But seeing the sunset this evening level set my reasoning for being an outdoorsman. The picture doesn't do it justice.

Saw that red sky sunset looking west from the SE corner of the KC Metro area. Pretty cool.

Yes, being outdoors and seeing the sun rise and set, taking in all that is around you.is a huge part of why I enjoy hunting.
Thanks for the pictures

I saw a beautiful sunrise yesterday morning. It prompted me to grab the rifle and go for a walk.

Spent a week at the deer camp a couple weeks ago with the pard. We spent two days cutting wood, one day visiting other camps and generally bummed around the rest of the time taking turns in a UTV shooting grouse with a single shot Cooey 12ga. Only really hunted deer one day from an old stand over a clear cut.

It was pretty much the perfect week.

Absolutely, great pictures! Of course we deer hunt for deer, but the things we see, and experience, along the way do make it extra special. The bulk of my hunting was before the digital age, so many pictures I would have taken, but camera equipment back then didn't fit into my lightweight run and gun. So much easier, and rewarding, now. Really nice pictures...

Friends that do not hunt ask me why. Then I tell them about the woods coming to life the sunrise and small game running around and just things they do not see. So now I have given a few of them a morning in my deer shed with me now that gun hunting is over. The look on there faces. Then it comes I never new you could see this much now we see why. I just smile and say lets go get some hot coffee and some deer loin and eggs.

A morning in the woods.

Psalm 19
1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. 3 They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. 4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.

This is spot on for me.

It may seem stupid at the moment....sitting in a blind, a stand or just with your backside against a tree in the pitch black...cold...but then you start to see shapes form from the black and experience that sudden drop in temp just before the light begins to truly reveal the surroundings. The dark continues to recede as the woods reveal themselves and the sun finally breaks the horizon, bathing the world in its bright rays, sharing its warmth. The dew falls from the leaves, the insects begin buzzing around, the birds start chirping and fluttering. The entire seen is pure magic...no other way to describe it as the world comes to life. I feel blessed to absorb it and see it all.

Few people who do not hunt or fish can grasp the magic of what this event feels like.
