Took new to me 1895 octagon out to the range the other day. We had discussed this before. It has Lyman combination rear sight and Lyman patent combination ivory front sight. I shot it with the smaller rear disc folded down and the globe front sight up. I used my pet load for pre-90.000 1899's and 1895's of 27 grains of 3031 and Sierra flat nose 150 grain bullet. Some guys on here suggested I get some 1.00 or 1.25 reading glasses since I don't see well up close. Didn't find any 1.00's but did find and use 1.25's. The first target I used was orange and white. I was having some trouble seeing it so put up a black bullseye. The sun reflecting on the front sight gave me some trouble. I'll devise a hood of some sort before I take the rifle out again. The first shot is at 1 o'clock near the bull, the 2nd, 5th and 6th are the three that are touching. This is at 50 yards. I also shot the 99EG buffalo gun. It's ready for Tuesday's hunt.

Can't wait for the Tuesday addition of the story.
Looks like the 1.25's worked. Nice set of sights on that rifle.

When did Savage start offering Beech's front sights?

They are shown in the reproduction of the 1905 catalog in Murray’s. No idea if they were offered earlier.

I was just shooting the 1895 for the heck of it. I'm shooting the buffalo with the 99EG 308. The sights on the 1895 are pictured in one of the reproduction 1895 catalogs. Several pages of the catalog are dated 1895.
