I was sighting in rifles for deer season and gave the new .243 a try. I was shooting a Rem .300 Win mag, a 6.5X55 and a .250 savage bolt gun along with my new 99F. The 6.5 was the sweetheart of the day!
I've never thought of the .243 as anything but a MILD recoiling, pleasant shooting cartridge, until now! That 99's felt recoil was actually worse than the 300 winchester, which really surprised me. Must be the metal butplate? It does shoot good groups though and I think when I put a scope on it it should be at an inch at 100 yards. It isn't perfect as the bluing goes, but the stock hasn't been drilled, and the caliber is pretty scarce around here.
I also put a NICE .300 on layaway, 533---, lever boss 26A, much nicer shape than the .243, haven't seen any in months now 2 in 2 days.
Now if I could just find a .250 in the saddle gun configuration, once I save up some cash, I'll be set.
PS: Guess I have to download mozilla 4+ before I can add the pics....
