Yet another popular, modern activity I know nothing about...airsoft.

I have 10 year old son that is interested in Airsoft.

Any recommendations?

Oooohhhhh no.

Don't start that shìt again.

I bought a M and P AR 15 a while ago and was scolded for paying 700 bucks.

They were 650 before the pandemic!

A can of coke also used to be 10 cents.

Most airsoft rifles pump out a 20 caliber pellet at 300 - 400 fps. So they are not exactly a toy and many a child has has experienced eye injuries to them. So the first rule is face/eye protection. Otherwise, the sky is the limit in both capabilities and prices.

A lot of firearm instructors begin with air soft guns as they have the same weight and function as the real deal. The best part is an AD isn't life threatening event. A lot of experienced shooters use them to maintain muscle memory at home.

There are “biodegradable” airsoft pellets. Walmart usually has ‘em. Will keep you from having little white plastic balls all over the yard around your house forever. A side benefit of the biodegradable is that they shatter when they hit hard stuff, like brick walls or rocks, so less ricochet hazard & mess.

I used a co2 airsoft pistol with these pellets to bust up a wasp nest in the process of being built on my front porch. Busted up the nest w/out harm to the wood or paint. Pretty slick.

20 years ago in college 4 of us lived in a 2 story townhome. We all had airsoft Beretta pistols. Nobody, or no Sheetrock, was safe. The top and bottom of the stairs where most shots were concentrated, the Sheetrock looked like a golfball. I still have no clue how we got our security deposit back.

Standard Saturday fun was finding somebody passed out on the couch and barefoot. Airsoft from close range to the bottom of the foot hurts like hell and if hits bone close to skin can even draw blood. Good times.
