Saw a local ad for a Remington Mountain Rifle, 308, in a McMillan stock, with a 6X24 Vortex tactical scope. Also as a custom trigger, whatever that means, and the factory stock. Asking price is $1500. I don't really need it, as I don't want or need another 308, but price wise, it doesn't sound bad. The pics show a rifle that appears to be in pretty nice condition. So, what's the opinion of the Fire?

Seems overpriced to me, but a good margin. A Vortex scope doesn't bring anything to the table for me, but maybe it's one of their high priced scopes, no idea.

Tell them to keep the pos vortex and you'll give them $800.00 for the rifle...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

For the record, I'm not really interested in the rifle, at least not at that price. I wouldn't care for the Vortex scope, but if the rifle could be bought, with both stocks, for less than a $1000, and it was in very good condition, it might not be a bad buy...........not that I'd buy it at that price. The owner seems to be wanting to sell pretty badly, and one can sometimes pick up a good deal if that's the case.

Anybody noticed 700 prices lately? I've been seeing just actions sell for more than whole rifles used to bring. I wouldn't pay some of the prices I see, but others are.
Which Mt. rifle? Blue & wood, or, the last ones were stainless in a Bell & Carlson Ti or Alaskan. Street price on a SS B&C model was $800 before all the multiple reasons for inflated gun prices.

Hard one to say with the McMillan stock. 800 with the factory stock for sure. Their prices are way inflated.

Makes no difference now. I was going to make an offer on it, minus the scope, but while I was gone to church, it was sold. For how much, I didn't ask. I'll admit that I was hoping the guy was needing to sell it badly, and that I could pick up a bargain. It was the blued version, with a synthetic stock, and in today's market, it would sell for more than it's probably worth.

Yeah, there is a demand for them since they are now a thing of the past. The price always goes up when something isn't being made anymore, and the demand for it is still there.

Despite all the Vortex haters, the scope alone could have been worth the asking price . The McMillan stock alone could be worth 1k or more ,maybe much more if any custom work was done . And then there is the custom trigger . You may have passed up a very good profit .

I walked out of a lgs with an old wood/blue 308 mountain with older nikon buckmaster 3-9 for 550 otd. They thought it was a the regular old bdl that only old folks like. I went through it, cleaned it up, timney trigger, new pachmyer pad and replaced it with a nikon monarch 2-8. I wouldn't take any less than 1200 for it.

When selling a Remington one should always consult with Dinny since he feels the need to comment on every Remington post in the classifieds and give his two cents worth on what someone should ask for their rifle.

We've all heard of buyer's remorse, well I'm kind of feeling it in reverse today, as part of me is wishing I'd bought that rifle. It was on a Facebook post, one that you have to read between the lines in order to get around Facebook's policy, and I saw it just a little while before I was leaving for church. I honestly had no idea what it was worth, as I didn't have the time to research it properly. I decided during church that I'd make him an offer on it when I got home. But, there were a few things going on, and by the time I got a chance to contact him, he'd sold it.
I wasn't looking to buy a 308, as I have all of them that I want at the present time, and don't shoot them much anyway. However, I was looking to maybe buy it and trade it for something I would shoot. That's what happens to you when you procrastinate too much.
