Green New wave… blah blah blah.

Other day in MS i passed a Tesla with Cali plates.

How do you travel cross country in a electric car?

Hotels have charging stations?

Plan your trip @ 500 miles a day ( or whatever the range is)

Of course, it’s possible they are over on long term business and had it shipped….

Just thinking being green isn’t convenient.

There are charging stations at gas stations all over the place now. Google a map.

The one I have seen has a gps that shows where the charging stations are and recommended routes. It will track the amount of battery etc. and plan it all out. This particular machine has the fast charging already paid for so that part is easy.

I don't remember how fast the fast charging is though.

The real world range in a Tesla is about mid 200 miles and it takes about an hour to recharge. I used to have a Tesla (the Model S) and thought it would be interesting to drive it from CA (when I lived there) to our place in Montana. 1000 miles of hell. Having to stop every 200 miles for an hour is a total deal killer for me, since I usually make the 1000 mile trip in a day. I hear that the newer Teslas can hit about 300 miles on the highway, but even that assumes you are driving about 70 mph, which is not going to happen for me.

our little out of the way grocery store has about 6 charging stations in the lot. Rarely see a Tesla out this way. I think the Niles Hotel in town has one also.

Buddy of mine drives his up to Nebraska and back.

20 min recharge times so he says.

He also carries an extension cord just in case.

Apparently a lot of the charging stations are just for show and don't charge for schidt. (namely Target stores)

Lots of Applebee's and Walmart's have charging stations now, at least the ones along the interstate highways do.

Going to get interesting evacuating from the path of a hurricane and 250 miles won’t even get you out of the area. Everyone is going to be at the same place trying to get hooked up for a charge. You can’t hitch a ride and bring back some electricity for your car. Definitely needs some more thought before we all get electric cars.
I like the 600 mile range of my gas guzzler.

What's the range at -20 with the heater on full blast?

Will it keep you warm if stuck in a snowdrift overnight?

Or is it just a car for the beach boys?

Most of the newer built refueling stops/stores at the interstates exits are being built with chargers as well as restaurants at the exits. Heck, even in the sticks around here Sams has chargers. It’s only a matter of time before they are common. As charging technology increases you will be able to add 300 miles of range in 45 minutes or less.
Stop to eat, charge
Stop for the night, charge
Pull into rest area for a break, charge.
It’s coming wether you like it or not.

110-115 years ago they said the same thing about ICE vehicles - not enough gas stations.

Will they charge off a portable generator? I know it would be slow, but the Honda generators are quiet enough, so could you do it at an overnight stop?
