A person is a fool to idolize a politician..... Conncur. A true "hero" would never lower him self by becoming a politician Like Trump? I think that the man is rather heroic for what he tried to do for this country. The hero's are everyday Americans that work to keep the trains running on time.... and the soldiers that fight for our freedom Trump fought for our freedom as did Ike and Dole. I agree Trump fought for us..... Bob Dole ... you gotta be kidding me .... fug that rhino You’re disputing your own self and your own stated criteria.here. Another that fought for our freedom and put himself on the line for it and all of us was GHW Bush, The Elder. Trump was a different creature.... he fought for us in the political arena..... Dole , Kerry . Bush etc... did politics for personal gain.

How many even realize that military service is often a
box to check for the elite political class.
A stepping stone to a political career.
There are those who put it all into their service.
And those who do it for what they can take.
Never served.
But I've known some from both categories.
Even some draftees that freely admit they did what they were forced to do.
People get a little hung up on military service.
They are a cross section of America.
From the best and the brightest,
to no darn good.
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

No one is calling him a hero. Just an old and decorated warrior who actively fought for our country. Literally, not in DC. To me that rates some respect regardless of politics.

to no darn good. I'm not saying that his military service gives him a pass from anything that happened after, but being an infantry officer in the 10th mountain in Italy was a little different than many of the examples "stepping stone" military service you can find out there.
