Just a tip, if you are looking for one locally carry a 300 WBY dummy round with you. I have bought 2 over the years at gun shows and upon getting home both had been rechambered.

Thats a good tip 300 Weatherby dummy shell. Years ago, old time gunsmith in Tacoma WA Chet Paulsons. Told me same thing, watch any old 300 H&H in Winchester model 70 or old 721 Rem Was very popular to re chamber in 60s and 70s, Many not market on barrel. Buyer beware.

I had to do the Weatherby shell test on a Sako FN barreled action from the fifties. While marked 300 Magnum my research told me that many rechambered them to the new popular Weatherby and did not change the barrel marking. Lucky for me it is a 300 H&H mag.

Thanks for the tip 160. I know a lot of them were rechambered. It wouldn't surprise me if a third of them were modified.
