Try a couple coats of spar varnish. Or wear your clothes more often?

Don’t store them in a cedar chest.

We have a big cedar chest at our remote cabin in Interior that we keep our heavy wool blankets in between visits (7 years at one point). It's damned near decadent when we get there and put them on the bed (bare box springs- the squirrels et the box-spring coverings). "Um… isn’t the Oder the whole idea of a “cedar” chest?" Partially, and yes - moths and other vermin don't like the odor.

Moths don't like cedar. That's the original purpose of them. Back when wool was one of the most common fabrics used, moths were a serious problem.

When I built my first practice abode (now a rental unit). I lined the closets, the bathtub surround, and one wall of the kitchen with cedar siding. Unfortunately, the odor fades over time, unless renewed with cedar oil. A renter's fire took out some of it, but I still hit it with the oil between renters. Lopez has been in there for 9 years now, so he ain't getting the benefit of it anymore....

To answer to question, I'd think a few coats of polyurethane would seal out the smell.

I ain't a bit classy - our bed is plywood build, with drawers underneath for storage ( no wasted space there). The drawers are red cedar lined. When we moved out of the aforementioned "now rental" apartment to our present home, the rope kinda slipped when lowering the bed frame from the second floor (first floor was my gunsmithing shop). The wreckage pile was epic- but salvageable, mostly.
My wife insisted on me rebuilding the bed frame, with it's cedar lined drawers underneath. Still working 30+ years later - just change mattresses every 10 years or so.

Do not use varnish or poly. The smell will be worse and will last a long time.
If you need to coverup the old cedar smell, use shellac. You can get a can of Zinsser clear shellac and some cheap china brushes and rags. Zinsser also has a rattle can of shellac that would also work. The shellac will not ruin cloth items stored in the chest.

How about wrapping the fabric in plastic before storage in the cedar chest.
Preferably those airtight vacuum storage bags. Get more fabrics in the box that way too.
