I got a big old cedar chest. The problem is if I store clothes in it for any length of time they come out smelling like cedar
Any ideas how I can remedy this...thanks for any advice....TM That's the whole reason for the cedar in the first place. Moths hate the smell and don't eat your wool clothing. This is like asking for brownies with no chocolate.

Do not use varnish or poly. The smell will be worse and will last a long time.
If you need to coverup the old cedar smell, use shellac. You can get a can of Zinsser clear shellac and some cheap china brushes and rags. Zinsser also has a rattle can of shellac that would also work. The shellac will not ruin cloth items stored in the chest.
