Saw a mid WW2 99-R at a recent show. Strangely, it had 2 lines on the front of the forend, but no sling posts. The rear of the stock had no hole, but the forearm did held in place just by a screw. From what I’ve read, it appears all 99 T’s and RS’s have sling posts and swivels.is my understanding correct?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a correct 99R. But 99T's didn't have factory studs.

Version 1 99R (1932-1947) - double lines around the forearm, no sling studs, no peep sight, forearm attached with a screw
Version 1 99RS (1932-1947) - double lines around the forearm, round / flat bottomed sling studs with swivels and sling, has peep sight, forearm attached with sling stud
99T (1935-1940**)- fat and wide forearm with short/sharp slant outs in front of receiver, no sling studs, no peep sight but with 99T specific sights, forearm attached with screw.

A 99R here (aftermarket brass plaque):

A late style of 99RS here;

Appreciate the confirmation and the pictures of what a model R and RS should look like.

While it was a version 1, it had extra holes everywhere. 4 or 5 holes in the back of the receiver, 2 on the side and 2 right through the Savage stamping on the ring.

Just wanted to say thanks to the members of this forum who help new people learn through their posts, books and reference guides.
