Congrats on a successful trip. They are awesome G2s on that deer. Glad to hear your Dad went along even though no tag.

Oh, and do you practice shooting from the hip? laugh

laugh I may have to do so.
From the previous sightings, that was as controlled, calculated and predictable as a setup could be..........until that bucked turned it into a carnival of what not to do. laugh

And a couple of the does were shot with a 6mm Creedmoor.

Love those big 8’s.

Looks like your track shoes came in handy when you had to get after it quick.

This hunt is one of my yearly favorites to read. Great times with Dad, a studly buck, yearlings for chow and a pile of dead coyotes… I can’t think of a better place to be in life. 👍

Looks like a nice thick shed antler too!
Great job men!!

Thank you for posting, enjoy reading about your adventures every year.

Congrats on a great buck and another adventure. I have never seen a buck that lean either.

The temps and drought up here in SD impacted our season too. But it benefited my December muzzleloader hunt. Allowed me to access some high country in the Hills that are normally socked in by snow this time of year.

The buck is awesome but more awesome is spending time with dad.

I killed a buck this season and last season, not 2 minutes after setting up (small, low turkey chair against a tree). The thing both of those had in common is that I was anything by noiseless and kicking away the dry leaves to clear at a spot, just as you did.

Both bucks came in on a string and were shot at 20 yards, looking right at me.

Call and think of it what you will but I refuse kill mommas with babies (and the ranch owner shares the same perspective). I have killed mature does without fawns but that's generally a rarity.
And sometimes because we've taken so long to fill bucks tags, we need to fill doe tags in a hurry. Once you find the bunches of yearlings, it's not uncommon to shoot multiples in a sit.
Shoot one, they go back into the timber and reappear minutes later.

Include me in this club. Shot one last week. They are tender.......
