Years ago my mother and granny used to make excellent fruit cakes with mostly homemade ingredients and the cakes were cooked in a pressure cooker. After the house burned and ruined most of the kitchen utensils, there wasn't any more homemade fruit cakes, and oven baked holiday goodies prevailed along with various gelatin desserts

I freaking love fruit cake. I tell everybody to just buy me a fruitcake instead of a present. Works out great. Cheap for them and I get what I want.

Mid 50's and love a good fruitcake. As well as egg nog. And that olive loaf Slum was talking about.

Best fruit cakesGrowing up, we had some awful fruitcake from the grocery store. About 10 or 11 years ago, this same discussion popped up on here and some recommended the fruitcake made by the Trappist Monks at Assumption Abbey. I took a chance and ordered three, one for us and two for others. We haven’t missed an order yet. They are very good.
