I prefer Copenhagen. For leaf chew, I think Levi Garret tastes the best. But it’s expensive AF now
And I agree, do what you can to not make it a habit. I mostly gave it up but it’s been creeping back. I chewed about half the year this year which is too much. Usually I limit it to hunting season
Tobacco like anything can be very enjoyable in moderation. Moderation is the tricky part though as we know

Bunch of quiters, still dipping Copenhagen but like the Redman also. Another vote for Stoker's if you're looking for a little cheaper.

Daddy had his first cigarettes at the age of four (that’s 4). His uncles taught him because they thought it funny. Of course he was born in 1918. Eventually it was quit or die due to athsma and emphysema. He started on Natural Leaf plug after that for about 20 years or so. Never saw him spit. Grandaddy smoked rolled Prince Albert, cigars and a pipe. Chewed tobacco and dipped dry snuff. Lived into his mid 80s as did my Dad. Without tobacco, who knows. It’s bad stuff.

Back in my high school and college baseball-playing days, I chewed a lot. In college I would take a pouch or two of Red Man to the bullpen and by the time the game was over, I was out. Everybody liked Red Man. I had to switch or go broke, so I started chewing Black Maria. Nobody bummed a chew off of me after that. I was in my 30's when I decided to quit. Glad I did.

Quitting is easy. Not starting again is hard That describes my experience. Dumped out many a can of skoal only to run to the local quick sack an hour later for another. Finally quit after ten years of slavery. It took many years for the cravings to totally go away.

I quit one time when I was about 10 years in. Found a half can one day in a tool box out in the shop. Opened it up and it still had a wonderful smell.
8 years later I quit for good.

Never was addicted. Could quit anytime I wanted. With no issues. No grouchy, no sick, irritable.... But damn, did I miss it. Just liked having it there. Mostly only chewed working or driving truck, girlfriend/wife only ever saw me chew once. Forgot to spit it out on the way to pick her up. She wasn't impressed!
Quit for several years, just dabbled.
Went back to trucking in 2005, started again. Found out about the friends with oral cancer. Pretty much quit then. Have cheated with a chew once in awhile, no thing like a pouch. Few years ago I got to really wanting a chew, It was ongoing, and wouldn't go away. Finally begged one of a friend, hoping to satisfy the craving. But not start again. It worked. Totally free for 3 or 4 years.
But. Typing this, thinking about chewing tobacco? I can actually feel a chew in my gums. And I want to have a chew.
If I knew I could do it, not screw up my teeth or get cancer? I'd be chewing in a day!

Back when I chewed it was Redman and I thought it was good. Then a friend brought some Mammoth Cave to deer camp one year and I liked it a fair amount better.

Huntin' doves , hot, hot hotter.
A bit of Skoal , with a dab of peppermint, in one cheek, some Redman on tother side, a bit of plug somewhere, a cigar between my fingers holding the 20G
Superposed a cold Bud on the ground , man that was livin'.
Still chew Redman Select . Not by habit. It has to taste good. When it don't ...I don't chew , sometimes I go for a couple months. Then I will hit it again .
Maybe 1 chew inna day or less. Never outta habit. Never ever addicted to anything, that wasn't alive. When I chew or drink has to taste good.

Copenhagen Long-cut Wintergreen
Or
Beech Nut Original when I’m outdoors and can spit. It’s pretty juicy. I try not to chew this too much because it’s sweet and I’m afraid of what it will do to my teeth.

Any of y’all ever do gumbacca?? Guy I worked with in another life long ago swore by it. Couple pieces of pink blobubble and a wad of Redman. Chewed it all up together. When he spit it out looked like somebody with a bleedin ulcer took a dump. Horrible looking stuff.
