I acquired the gun with the stipulation it was to be hunted. This week my daughter was able to harvest her second buck in WI with a 70 year old rifle. Skipped school and hunted old school! Truely a week to be thankful.
Two thumbs up! Congratulations to that young lady putting that classic to good use and bravo to her dad.
Shew me thy ways, O LORD: teach me thy paths. "there are few better cartridges on Earth than the 7 x 57mm Mauser" "the .30 Springfield is light, accurate, penetrating, and has surprising stopping power"
"Come, shall we go and kill us venison? And yet it irks me the poor dappled fools, Being native burghers of this desert city, Should in their own confines with forked heads Have their round haunches gored."

Congratulations, that is good stuff. I have a pre-64 257 Roberts that I hunt with in an attempt to honor its previous owners as well. I did put a synthetic stock on it for field use, and try to avoid taking it out in the rain though.

I did the same thing this year with my dads 1960 264 win mag and harvested a big mule deer doe. With his old hand loads. No telling how old the were but they still shot great. Old 100gr winchester bullets in them.
