We have been gifted some rutabagas.
I can’t remember ever eating them. We want to utilize them.
So I ask the Fire, how do you prepare them?
Recipes are appreciated.
And no, I’m not making the mistake of asking Beav and Sandbilly to refrain from their ongoing courtship. It only encourages them.

Beavs and Sandy would boil them and fire em at eatch other’s bumhole with a tennis ball machine

Mash them like potatoes. Same recipe and ingredients you normally use.

Par-boil.

Don't want em too soft.

pretty much a replacement for turnips. i grew them one year and was not impressed. boil and mash with lots of butter and milk is what i did.

Now that you're in the sunny southern climes of Michigan, you prolly forgot what true Northerners use the beggas for: pasties! A little of the venison from that doe you're going to shoot this weekend, some beggas, some carrots, lard, pastry dough, and a secret ingredient I got from an old Finn up there...breakfast sausage. Make up a bunch for you and the missus, eat some freeze some. I like mine with gravy please.

The tough part might be putting a doe in the freezer.
My neighbor has a tree stand about 20 yards South of the bedding area that’s on my property. He’s hunted 3-4 times a week out of that stand and it appears the pressure he’s put on the deer herd has run them out. There’s not much I can do about.

Feed them to the hogs! Not good for anything else.

Brown a Beef roast,
Rutabagas, potatoes, turnips, parsnips, carrots, onions,
garlic. Roast them for a few hours (basically pot roast)

Mash it up on your plate, butter and horseradish, add a bit of the broth.
Fresh hot biscuits, or bread. Butter, home made Apple butter.


It don't suck!

They are good raw, plain, or with a dip.
