"Sports" today are a farce.
Carefully crafted drama, intrigue, and competition.
We have become Rome.
People's lives are dedicated to watching others play games.
Mood, finances, mental health, are all affected by who moves
a stupid ball in a certain manner.

Look at the NFL.
They could BBQ babies on the sidelines and some people would
still watch.

Golf is a game, played primarily among drunks. Hunting is an activity.

"Look at the NFL"....... Dillonbuck nailed it. I consider football a good sport. Too bad the NFL has devolved into a Hollywood inspired theatrical troupe portraying a sport; which means it's not really a sport when there's more theatrics than Broadway. It's become more of a reality show, drama theater type soap opera. Or at least that was my impression of it when I started ignoring them in 2012. Only football games I ever see are an occasional high school game that gets on a local cable access channel. Those are good, honest football games not played by multi millionaire social justice Hollywood inspired fools.

Perhaps Paulie B could provide a list of sports so we're no longer stumbling in darkness looking for the answer?

I raced motocross for several years and considered it a sport. Played basketball a lot and considered that one as well. I have shot in various disciplines (some well, some, not so much!) and considered them more of a pastime than a sport. Today, trying to stand on one foot while putting on my socks is about as close to a sport as I get (I risk serious injury every day). GD

Does it require speed?

Does it require strength?

Does it require stamina?

Does it require athleticism?

A competition that does not include any of those or any combination is not a sport.

Sport versus games has nothing to do with athleticism but rather the application of honor and code of ethics.

Hunting, fishing, golf, and a few others are true sports. "Ball" games are not.

This. Sports are what people do for personal enjoyment where the challenge is developing their own skills for their own enjoyment, not involving competition against others.

The term "Sports" has been hijacked to include athletic competions between others or groups.

Fishing and hunting are among the purest of true sports until it becomes a competitive event such as a fishing tournament. Those competitions are done for financial gain.

LOLOLOL. You should see the boat loads of fat, drunk, athletes engaging in the sport of saltwater tournament fishing.

Used to be, there were blood sports, (hunting, fishing, etc.), and then everything else.

The National Junior College Athletic Association has recognized esports as an athletic sport within the athletic department, and my son is a coach. I am sure that a lot of people posting here won't get that. The NCAA doesn't either, yet, but it will when it sees the buzz that esports have created at the junior college level and in the high and junior high schools now that there is a more formal pathway to the pros. The really good players are athletes and train like athletes. Flame on! smile

Again, the term "sports" has been stolen and applied to games to falsely elevate their status. It is the same process in reverse to calling every firearm an assault weapon. Just because you can get people to call something by a name does not mean it warrants that name.

Games require stamina and athleticism. Sports involve character and integrity.

We might go further and say that games involve score keeping, referees, and teams. We still call these contests games, because that is precisely what they are: football games, basketball games, hockey games, baseball games. Not sports.

Sports are above that. Sports which are played professionally are no longer sports, but have devolved into games. Pro golf, pro fishing, pro anything are entertainment venues, not sports. True sport is done at the individual level, nobody watching to enforce rules, honor and integrity for conforming to rules are paramount. Thus, amateur hunting, fishing, golf, and many others are true sports.

Exactly. Hunting, for example, for the enjoyment of being out there is a sport. A big buck contest,"gettin onr biggern Bubba"' or the record book quest isn't. Undecided if it is for meat. It's kind of fun eating. smile

Rocky put it much better.

Now lets talk sex. There are 3 kinds, Personal Use, Commercial, and Sport. smile
