Purchased a Remington 760 in .300 Savage. It’s a new caliber for me. Looks like I can snag some Remington core lokt 150 grain at a place near me. Any other options out there?

Right now Remington is the only one I've seen locally and online. Federal, Hornady, and Winchester all made ammunition in the past, and I imagine they will again if things ever catch up.

Buy what ever brand you can find and as much as you can. I haven't been able to find any 300 savage for the last year but I stocked up on it a few years ago when I found about 10 boxes of it at a overstock warehouse of all places.

I too have seen the Remington on the shelf recently....for close to $60 a box. Hornady's Superperformance 150's always did well for me in the past, but I haven't seen any around for a while now.

The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me.

Was 40 pieces of brass for sale in classifieds yesterday.

I hate to admit I got caught short on .300 Savage. My memory said many years ago when I bought my 99 I bought brass along with dies, bullets etc.

What had happened was I had 2 boxes of WW factory loads shot up and that was all the brass I had loaded some and misplaced the other. FF all these years and acquired a 2nd .300 and started looking for stuff. NO dice.

Paid Midway $42.50/box for a few boxes so now I'm set for life.

I see now it's $67

I just sent 12 rounds downrange not 10 minutes ago to get the EG set for tomorrow. 180's with the steel butt kicked noticeably more than the 150's.

My dad had a 300 Savage when I was a boy and for most of the time he shot factory ammo. I killed my first elk with that rifle when I was a young boy with a factory 180 grain. I can't remember the brand now for certain, but I do remember us stopping in Eureka Nevada for gas and so my dad could buy some "elk ammo". He used 150s until we were going for elk. He then bought some 180s.

I now own two 300 Savages, and I load ammo for the Remington M81 with 180s and ammo for the Savage M99 with 150s. If you don't load your own getting factory ammo is going to be hard to do. It can be hard to get "common" calibers today and the older less popular ones are nearly impossible.

So handloading is an answer. I make the brass from LC Machine Gun Brass. Trim it down close to final length nd neck it down, Trim again to final length. The neck-turn it so the lower part of the new neck is not too thick. It's a bit time consuming, but not all that bad when you consider each shell will re-load 15 times or so. I don't run my loads red hot, so brass life is very good. Even from the M81 I have gotten 7 reloads so far and the brass is still OK.

The 150 grain Core-lokt is an excellent deer bullet. It's accurate and seems to kill very well. I have never shot any game with a 150 grain 30 cal Core-Lokt larger then a big deer, but all the deer and all the antelope I ever shot with that bullet from several shells (300 Sav, 308 Win, 3040 Krag, 30-06 and 300H&H) were 1 shot kills and with only 2 exceptions, all were through and through. I have no complaints.
The 2 that didn't exit were one from a 30-06 on a mid sized Nevada Mule deer and one from a 30-40 krag on a large mule deer. The one from the krag was a nice mushroom and looked like a picture from an advertisement. The 30-06 kill was good too, but the core and the jacket were separated, but only about 1-1/2 inches apart, and the penetration's was quite good.

I load a lot of them in 308, 30-06 for my M1 Garand and my M99 300 Savage today.
I use them for practice and for hunting antelope and deer.
Factory loaded I am sure you'll have the same results I get from my handloads.

Yup, I've got 5 Remington RN 180's left. Last deer that I shot with them just tipped over DRT. Remington did their usual foot shot when they stopped making that bullet available in the .300 Savage, but kept it for the .308 and '06.

My other auto is a .45

All that seems to be in stock are the core lokt 150 pointed soft point. Would love to locate some of the 180 grain round nose.
