The best shrimp and grits on the planet can be found at The Blue Crab restaurant on the lakefront. If you get a chance to get away from the Quarter, I recommend it. Their grilled oysters are right there with Dragos in my opinion. GW Fins is a very good restaurant in the Quarter. WWII Museum is a must.

Keep ‘em coming.

Just had a late lunch @ pêche. It was one of those rare times where EVERYTHING was way better than it sounded on the menu. Really, really good stuff.

Not in the French Quarter but you should drive out at see the battlefield at Chalmette.

I never was one who enjoyed being in any large city.

Joe, all I can say is that New Orleans is awesome...as long as you stay away from the French Quarter and projects.

Drago's was good advice.

Drive the river road.

My buddy was a cop there. He kind-of gave the same advice. He said that if you go; " don't leave the immediate tourist area by even one block. Local crime is rampant.
Daughter got a teaching job there and we went down for a visit. Visited the FQ and had a good time but made our way over to where the Steamboat Natchez was docked just a couple blocks from the quarter. The boat left on a cruse at 7pm in the evening and the dock area changed so fast it just blew me away. Luckily my daughter who was pretty savvy to what was going on kept us OK and got us out of there before dark.

Shrimp and grits is originally a Lowcountry thing, coastal South Carolina and Georgia. New Orleans kind of adopted it and added some creole flavors to it. There are a lot of variations on it and most are really good.

I'm telling you, don't knock it until you try it.

New Orleans is not a city I recommend I'm conservative and that city is way to far left. The Commies run that city.

I was going to say, if you’re looking for the best in shrimp and grits, your search can begin and end in Charleston, SC.

If you're driving could you bring me about 10 pounds of fresh crawfish, & 10# of pork boudin.

I'll meet you in Lex. or G'town on your way home.

Have cash, primers or 22LR.

If you're looking for a place to sleep, I recommend Hotel Monteleone. Had an awesome stay there for a conference a couple months ago. Also bring a thick wallet, ain't nothing cheap in the French Quarter.

Wrong time of the year for mudbugs. But, if he was to accidentally find some, you'll need cash, primers, and 22LR to pay for them. Might have to throw in a arm and a leg, also.
