I started using 308 instead of 30-06 about a dozen years ago. Nothing wrong with 30-06, it's just that 308 does all I need with less recoil, less rifle weight, and less powder burned. I have a couple of rifles set up the way I like, and I've invested time and money in getting handloads I like.
I tried a 6.5CM just to see what the fuss is all about. I believe it lives up to the hype. It performs as advertised. I've had a chance to shoot 4-5 different rifles and all have been extremely accurate with any loads tried.
As a hunting rifle I don't see where one wouldn't kill anything a 270 will kill. And I've taken mine afield a couple of times, but my 308's are still my go-to rifle and cartridge. It's not that I necessarily think 308 is significantly better, I just like the rifles I have in 308 better.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

On the pro side, if you need/want factory ammo, the Creed is clearly on the A list for production runs with 308 and 223. It's comparable peers (Swede, 708, 260) are not. On the con side, there are now some 150s and 156s in .264, but if you're really set on a heavier bullet (160 A Frame), the 708 is gonna win that battle and still have minimal recoil. I'm not saying I wouldn't do anything with one that I wouldn't with the other, but it's something folks consider. I laid in a supply of 156 Oryx and 160 Weldcore's for the CM. It will be early Spring before I work up loads for those.... As usual with most things CM, the factory 156 Oryx ammo shot very well in my rifle. Depending on what happens with Woodleigh/rebuilding, those weldcores might become a hot commodity.

I still think the small-cased 6.5mm and 7mm rounds are the "sweet spot" for many deer hunters when it comes to range/effectiveness vs recoil/shootability. It's the most juice for the least squeeze, within reason.
Not just deer. It’s a proven elk killer farther than most can shoot. P

I owned cm for 6 or 7 months, Weatherby Vanguard s2. Fine rifle, no complaints. However, since I only hunt, and won't take a shot over 300 to 350, I didn't really have a need for the cm. I gave it to a son in law. He's thrilled. I'll stick with my 270win and 308win.

For some reason some here think you have to shoot a long way to use a 6.5 creed, so far what i have seen the 6.5 creed with a good bullet, kills as well up close as the other rifles chambered in 308, 270, 30-06, ect. Rio7

The 308 Win and 6.5CM are my two favorite cartridges, and all I need in BG chamberings. I plan to add at least one or two more 6.5CM’s to the one I already have. My love of the 308 is probably reflected in my 60 year old age. If I were younger and didn’t have this 308 attachment, the 6.5CM would be all I need.
So no, not retreating from the Creedmoor, rather adding more.

I selected the clearly superior 6.5x47 and never looked back. Cause the brass case matters far more than the bullet.
And a 140 vld shot at 2700 fps from a 6.5x47 case kills way better than one shot at 2700 fps from a Creedmoor case. Man, you got it bad! I can sit around the campfire in deer camp and if someone asks, I can reply "6.5 Lapua". They'll nod their head not really knowing what the hell. I can sip on my coors light without being harassed vs saying "6.5 Creed". If you are in the Lapua group, you'd understand lol. If you're drinking Coors light you have no room to be snooty about anything. WINNER, WINNER !!!

How many have gone from 308/30-06/270/7-08, etc to 6.5 CM for your big game hunting, then went back to the more traditional calibers?
Full disclosure, no bone to pick here, considering a CM, just wondering how many have stayed with the CM after putting some miles in the game field with it. No way we'll ever dump it. It fits into a slot just perfectly. That said when its time for a new tube might go x47 which is the same thing, just out of curiosity now that we know how impartial the C is.

Not me. I have about 5 creedmoor rifles. From ar's to bolt actions. They are fantastic shooters, all of them. However I use the old stand by's for hunting. 30-06, 338wm and more recently my lightweight 7mm08 with barnes TTSX for elk. I love the cm for target shooting, but feel it is light for elk and where I hunt, I always want to be prepared for elk hunting. Recently I draw the lightweight line at 7mm08. That's not saying the 6.5cm won't work, just that I feel the slightly larger 7mm is minimum for me. Who knows, maybe that will change in a few years???
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA
