Gents - I have it in my head that one of these Henry singles would be a good gun to cut down for a kiddo. My local doesn't carry them or I'd test myself.... how is the trigger?

There is a spring swap that brings the pull down to a nice level. I don't remember the spring weights, but it should be easy to track down for anyone interested.

New ones, and ones that have been through the recall are just fine, in both areas. Look for one with a tiny dimple inside the trigggerguard behind the trigger. I swapped the springs on a couple, but the recall job was better.

Even with the lighter hammer pull, small hands may need help uncocking. That goes for any hammer gun, and the reason I never fussed about the safety on Marlins. The Henry has a rebounding hammer, but I haven’t tried to see if it will really prevent a whoopsie.

They now sell a youth stock as an accessory, so you won’t have to do a DIY chop job.

Thanks, Pappy. That's really helpful!

I thought the trigger and hammer were ok as is but I am not a small child so I guess you'll have to have the kid try one at the store maybe

I bought a post recall 30/30 about 6 months ago and it is very nice. No problems with hammer or trigger.

New guns and recall repaired guns have a dimple inside the trigger guard. Much improved over the originals....

I bought a used (like new) .30-.30 recently with very early serial number. Currently waiting on the call tag to send back to Henry for the recall. We'll see how it goes.

I am not real concerned about the weight of the trigger on mine, as it is a 30-30. It is plenty good for the distances that I shoot the rifle at. I have killed several deer with it out to 168 yards. Yes, it would sure be better if they would lighten it a bit.

I’ve got one of the Henry single shot 30-30 with the dimple on the trigger guard and the guns trigger pull and hammer is nice and easy and it shoots great with 150gr Bullets.
