I have been lurking here quite awhile, just started posting. I have been contemplating my perfect deer rifle for eastern whitetails and believe I have settled on a NULA in 7mm-08. I have done a alot of reading on them, one thing I have not read much about is their accuracy. At least not specifics. I know several here have one or more of these rifles. What knid of accuracy do you get from yours, including caliber. I am trying to unload a couple safe queens to get this ball rolling.

3/4" with a 257 Wby, without any huge investment in load development (I don't want to fritter away barrel life at the range.)

Easily under an inch with decent handloads and generally under an inch with factory. I just shot my NULA 257 Roberts during the lunch hour and with 115 Nosler BT, 43 grain H 4350, CCI 200 primers in WW brass, my last three shot group was right at 1/2". Normal for that load and rifle is more like 2/3- 3/4" though. Also have a 308 NULA that shoots similar groups with 165 Nosler Partitions and Hornady bullets, each with 44 grains of RE 15 or 44.5 grains of IMR 4064. Had a 270 NULA that was consistent sub MOA with virtually every handload or factory round I put through it.

That's it? Surely there must be more NULA owners out there.

I've grouped three different NULA's from the bench. All shot less than an inch (usually a lot less) with factory ammo.

You can't go wrong, I assure you.

I've got 6 NULAs, and all are superbly accurate, easy to carry and shoot, just great rifles.

You may not get much of a response, because many NULA owners have already said the same thing a number of times at the Fire.

NULA's are accurate - my first three-shot group from my 30-'06's cold barrel two weeks ago had all the holes touching in a cloverleaf at 100 meters. If that were all I was after, however, there's better ways to achieve it than buying a custom lightweight.

More important to me was that it wasn't unusual, or even a product of some long development process. Since the Hornady .308 comparator's are back-ordered at Midway, I haven't even done any "thousanths of inch off the lands" kind of loading. Just load something up that'll fit in the magazine and use a vaguely appropriate bullet and it'll group well and to about the same point of aim as every other load I've used in it. Mostly, I stayed with Hornady 165 Interlocks and H4350 since they work well on Virginia whitetails. When I go farther afield, I'll load up some premiums, most likely, but that's a bullet, not a NULA, issue.

Sorry, but I have no group measurements to share - I've decided to keep this a pure hunting rifle and not struggle for the last 0.1".

Mine is a Model 20 in 7mm-08 with a 20" stainless barrel. I shoot Federal factory 140 grain Accubonds and it's plenty accurate. I've never really shot it much from a bench, every fall I lean over the hood of the truck and shoot a couple to make sure it's on at 100 yards. It always is and it's killed anything I ever pointed it at.


Just buy it, you won't regret it.

Top pic is a couple routine groups from the 7-08 NULA. Don't have pics of other groups but the best I've done is with the ho-hum 120gr TSX pushed by 43gr of RL-15, ignited by a CCI BR2 primer. Some groups around 1/2" or a shade under.

Nosler Solid base 140gr shot good and was getting some 3/4" groups with 140gr Accubond. The TSX is the star of the show, IMO.

Black gun in the pic is the 7-08.

Not a bad move to unload some guns to make room for a NULA. You will enjoy it.

Several groups under an inch.Its a handfull to controll.But doable.

Thanks for the replies. I will be ordering a model 20 in 7mm-08 for deer back east. Sounds like just what I am looking for. I have done quite a bit of reading on them and didn't hear many specifics on how they shot other than accurate. Sounds like they are plenty accurate for what they are, a light carry hunting gun. Very nice guns pictured.

I think you'll be pleased. I use a 7-08 with 22" #2 barrel and have been happy with accuracy, and I'm picky. Haven't seen it mentioned so I will, Mevlin will see to it that you're satisfied.
I've dealt with Melvin on several occassions and never been left wanting. He's an honorable man that I enjoy dealing with.

Wish they had a NULA dealer downunder!

PS-BTW, great cal choice. 7mm-08Rem is a lifetime ownership.

I have a 270 Winchester and a 30.06 Springfield NULA, each with a #2 contour 24" barrel. The 270 does 3/4" with 130 grain Federal Fusion factory ammunition. The 30.06 does as well with 165 grain Federal Sierra Pro-Hunter SP and 1" with 180 grain Federal Nosler Partition factory stuff. I had to buy several other brands to weed out what those rifles enjoyed best. Of the six rifles I own, those two seem to go hunting more than the others.

From Appalacia to the Arctic my .30-06 NULA get's 'er done. And if it ever didn't, I'd send it back to Melvin and expect a no BS resolution, and pronto. Sometimes, at the top of Mount Breakmyneck, when the last bit of energy was expended about an hour before the summit, I reflect on how happy I am that that my rifle wasn't one ounce heavier.
