Hello you all, I'm a new savage owner.
purchased a like new savage 99f # 1078xxx on bottom 21R on lever
need year of manufacture, has pistol grip stock I can't tell if checkering is press on or the real hand checkering not an expert to know what's what. has tang safety shoots sweet cal. 308 rotary mag with a counter not brass. Thanks in advance for all detailed info.

The 21R puts it at 1964 which seems about right for the SN. The rotor (shell counter) is probably aluminum. A magnet will tell you that. It's not a collector but is a good venison collector. The checkering is probably pressed by then.

Thanks for your super fast response 1964 vintage is great. The gun looks like brand new and is very ligth weigth. It shoots great came with a 3x9 scope paid 325,00 inc tax. Was it a good buy?? they also have a 99 A 358 win. asking price is 375.00 out the door I went back and put the 358 in lay away, after reading how much the 358 win brings the gun is like new also, by next week I will have two nice 99's.
