I was thinking of a .35 cal for medium and occasional big game also to allow use of 357mag projectiles for plinking of which I have many. Wondered how popular the calibre is these days and what the main offerings are? I know of the 35 remington and 35 whelen from readings mostly. I like economical cartridges. would consider bolt, slide action, lever action but would like accuracy to 150 yards at least so a scope if preferred.

I would go with the 358 Win for what you're describing but I'm a Whelen fan.

I've had the 35 Rem, 358 Win and 350 RM. I've never had a 35 Whelen, and now that my 35 obsession has passed, I doubt I ever will.

The 358 Win was my favorite. Mine was a circa 1980’s limited edition, 19" bbl'd RugerM77 RS.

I think I'd get a marlin in 35 Remington. Scope it and you'll be set to 150 yards easy. Perfect for deer and black bear.
Will also handle elk fine if you're hunting close cover and don't take poor shots.

But that's just how I'm feeling this morning. If you asked tomorrow I might say 35 whelen because you'll never be lacking.

358 or Whelen, just because it would be a lot easier to find a bolt gun. The prices of 336s are outrageous right now.

I know nothing about the 358 Win but am very intrigued with the possibility of using .358 pistol bullets for plinking ammo. Will someone give me a quick lesson and bring me up to speed on the 358 Win?
thanks,

It's the 308 case necked up to 0.358" with no other changes. Accurate and deadly. Pushes a 200-grain bullet around 2,500 fps or a bit better depending on barrel length.

Not much more to say...

35 Whelen without a doubt. The Whelen does everything the the 358 Win does and more.
