Seems like a 130 grain TSX might do wonders for the older 1899s and 99s in 30 caliber like the 303 Savage and 300 Savage. Has anyone checked this out or is the very idea sacrilege?

I've not used it, but it sounds like a great idea to me, particularly if the rifle is scoped and you can really take advantage of the flatter trajectory. I'll probably not go with the 130 myself as my 1950 EG is not D&T'd and without a scope a heavier bullet at 2600ish does all I can do out to my personal open/peep sight limit on game of 200 yards.

I looked at the TSX's a couple of months ago, and decided not to do it. The combination of short case neck and long, skinny
grooved bullets results in a too long COL for the rotary mag.
It may work if you want to feed them single shot.

A plain old cup and core bullet will do anything that needs doing at 303 or 300 Savage velocities.

But long pointy bullets are sexy! Just like stiletto heels, don't make no difference if you can't walk in them, they look good!

Right on. Long pointy things are sexy.
That's why I check 'em out.
