I’m guessing it was indeed a 308 Baar which is a 300 WBY blown out.

Man, that's a great buck. Likely not the intent of the article, but one might conclude that the gentleman works really hard at keeping his shot(s) as long/far as possible. At one of the ranches I hunt they had a “long range tv” crew there. I won’t name them but you’d know them from their weekly shows. They requested the guides to back off some when presented with 250 or so yard shots on elk …..they wanted the 800 yard plus stuff. They were politely told “Not on this ranch” and they haven’t been back. I have two friends who video for those shows and yes, they do indeed have a few wounded animals get away that, for some reason, never make it to the show. For the life of me I can’t figure out why.

From what I see I'd say you are correct. As far as I know Baer uses Stiller Tac 30 actions. But that's just from looking at the web sight.

Not super impressed with his "hunting", but his shooting skill is very impressive.

Wow, That's nice!
Great Caliber! Not a bad selection of cartridge either!! Wow, That's nice!
Great Caliber! Not a bad selection of cartridge either!! TwoSebenty would made an even better story! Great Buck Absolutely! Great CARTRIDGE!!! It says his ".308 custom-built Baer rifle". If it is a 308 Baer, that is a custom round, built off a 300 Weatherby case. It is/was a fairly common 1000 yard target round, back in the day.

Someone from NY will be all shortly to tell us that Buck was from a “Game Farm” and that shooting a deer st that range “ain’t hunting”. 😜
HELL of a Nice Buck of a Lifetime, there ! I’m from Pa and just recently moved to NY so I guess I’ll chime in. Would I call this hunting, not really. It’s excellent shooting though. Now if I had the same skill set, same equipment and same opportunity would I take that shot? Yep. Would I actively seek out scenarios where I am shooting at unwounded game at those distances? Nope. It’s legal and he seems very capable to do it ethically so he should have every right to do what he is doing, I’m just not in the camp that would call it hunting. My opinion, make of it what you will. MM

I really don’t get the “long range” mentality that seems to be growing in popularity these days. Too many new/unexperienced hunters are more concerned with how far their rifle can kill a deer than they are with their hunting/shooting skills. I’ve probably killed more deer with a bow (100+) than I have with a gun. If I can get close enough to kill them with a bow then I should have no problem getting close enough to kill them with a rifle. I’m more impressed with someone killing one at 10 yards than I am with someone killing one at 1,000 yards.
They brag about the ones that they kill with the long shots but how many did they wound at long distance and not mention?
