I need your advice. I just purchased a nice full-size Anschutz Model 1422 .22 LR, based on the Match 54 action. I want to use it for training and target shooting. I likely won't use it for hunting. I need a scope appropriate for the rifle, which is about the same size and weight as my centre fire rifles, not a diminutive little plinker. I expect the rifle is accurate, and need a scope that can help me take advantage of that potential with good target ammo. My shooting will mostly be targets from 20 to 150 M range. I don't like big turrets and oversize objectives. "Nice" proportions and lines matter to me too. I probably need an adjustable parallax setting, but maybe not? I am thinking something in the 3-9x40 size and magnification range. I will require quick focus eyepiece, since sometimes I wear glasses and sometimes not. $300 to $600 or so for budget. What do you suggest?

Kimber made a business out of making hunting rifles that feel like a 22. LOL

And .22s that feel like big game rifles....

I have a couple of Leupold EFR 3-9X scopes and they work really well for 22’s. Unless they’ve changed, they don’t have the quick focus eyepiece but do have parallax adjustment on the objective.

Yes, thanks for the suggestion. That's about what I had in mind, but the quick focus eyepiece is important to me.

I have the Leupold EFR 3-9x on one of my .22's (a Ruger American Rimfire) and it's good scope. I prefer slightly more power for really accurate rimfires like your Anschutz. I have Weaver V-16's on a couple of .22's and they are nice, but unfortunately discontinued.

There are quite a few other choices out there that top out at 12,14 or 16x and have AO that might do justice to your rifle without being too heavy and ungainly. I have a Burris 4.5-14 with AO that is a good scope, although a bit below the price range you are looking at. Although I haven't used one, Tract makes a 4-12X40 rimfire scope that might fit your needs. Athlon makes some good scopes for reasonable prices, and I have one on a CZ 457, the caveat being they are made in China.

I will avoid Chinese made scopes, thanks. Wondering about 14 or 16x magnifications. Does that much power make the scope more difficult to use? I once had a Leupold 6.5-20x on a Sako HB varmint rifle but quickly got rid of it because the eye relief was so finicky and it just wasn't comfortable to use. My scopes on other rifles tend to be lower power, no more than 10x. I like the idea of more magnification for this .22, but I'm a little cautious.

On my 54 sporter and Cooper Classic I use a Leupold VX-2 6-18x40, they are not as small and light as I would like but still are a good compromise between power and size for a sporter.

Tract rimfires and many Burris are made in the Philippines.

I just mounted a Tract Toric 3-15 on a CZ MTR. Being 1”, it’s not too awful big and weighs 20oz. I’m going to install the included turret kit w/zero stop for the elevation , but not the windage. It has side-focus down to 15 yards.

Bought it for a CF, then changed my mind, but it’s a very nice scope for either. The Torics are Japanese; LOW I think. A bit over your budget, but nice goods.

Just looked, and they also are offering the Tekoa 4-16x14 without the turret kit included, also side focus down to 15 yards, for $624. Also good scopes, made in Japan.

I haven't had problems using 14 and 16x scopes, although the eye box is a bit more finicky when turned up to full power. I often use them at slightly less than maximum power, for example 12 or 14x on a scope that goes to 16x. That works well for me for general use, and if I am shooting at a really small target or wanting the greatest precision I can turn them up all the way.

I forgot to mention that I have a Leupold VX-2 4-12x40 on a Remington 541T that is a nice scope. I prefer relatively fine reticles on rimfire scopes and this scope has a fine reticle.

Doug sells a KonusPro for about $50 (last I checked)... fantastic low cost optic.

I use them on lots of stuff to 400 yards... 22s and x39 stuff

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

Top 20 rounds are at 200 yards

Bottom three are at 300.

That is a CZ 457... 22LR

I'll post the 450 yard target later...

If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.

I'd love to be able to buy a scope from Doug. Your government frowns on that though. Most makes available in the USA are also available in Canada so I appreciate all suggestions.

Weaver V16?

I have several of them on 17HM2, 17HMR, 204, 223, and 22-250 rifles. Not cutting edge optics, but fully capable for use during full daylight, but I'm not a turret twister.

The Tract rimfire scope are nice, I have one ac4X12 on my 22 mag. They are also 1" tunes

I have a few of the Busnhell Elite 3200’s in 5-15 with the AO that I really love for rimfires. They are bright and clear and they focus really well at close distances.

Zeiss 10x C series.

As an aside I had a 1422 in the early 80's, it was a very accurate rifle. But I prefer early Brno model 5 so gave it away to a mate.

Cast...have added pics of a Zeiss 10x C series for you to peruse, it is sitting on a Brno model 5 with a Leupold 1.5-5 for comparison.

The only full size 22 i have is an old pre-64 22 Hornet, it wears a gloss M8-4X long tube Leupold, perfect pairing imho, orange clay birds are easily hit out to 200 yards when the winds not too bad.

SWFA 6x or SWFA 10x if you want more power. Has fast focus eyepiece, parallax adjustment, and great reticle for windage holds (or elevation if you don't dial it). They do have turrets but for rimfires at distance that's a great thing.

I had placed a Tract 22 Fire scope on my Kimber 82c. When the scope was turned to highest power, the bolt handle did not clear the knob on the power ring. Just a consideration if low-mounting a scope with the large ocular bell on a bolt action. The Kimber now has a Burris compact 3-9 AO mounted on it.
