The best and worst concerts thread got me thinking about concerts where the opening act was better than the headliner. I've been to two. One was in 1979 with Muddy Waters opening for Eric Clapton in Mobile, Alabama. Muddy Waters sat there on a bar stool and played the blues. Eric Clapton came out and tried to out-blues Muddy. Sorry, ain't happening. Also, most of Clapton's recognizable stuff was from the Lay Down Sally/Cocaine era. I much preferred his earlier stuff. He played Layla but cut it off at the instrumental. The only Cream he played was Crossroads and Badge. Nothing from 461 Ocean Boulevard, either. The second was an up-and-comer who just started getting radio play as a guitarist who opened up for the Moody Blues in 1983. The opener stole the show. The Moody Blues had a new (lousy) album out and played all of it but hardly any of their classics. The guitarist opening for them---Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Saw ZZ Top one year with Joan Jett as the opening act. Joan Jett blew them off the stage.
I've saw ZZ Top several times and they were always disappointing.

Chris Stapleton - at the time lead on vocals with the Jompson Brothers opened for Zac Brown back in 2011 if I recall, just knew that voice would overcome anything around him.

This Charlie Daniels opened for Alabama. Charlie had the crowd on their feet. Alabama was a wtf. We had front row tickets to Alabama a few years ago. We left disappointed too. I'm not certain they even knew what city they were playing in. Acted like they couldn't wait to get off stage and out of town. The oddest thing about that concert was the huge number of sugar daddies all around us. Nearly every other couple there was a fat old boomer dude with a boob-jobbed chick 40 years younger than him hanging on his arm. Apparently sugar daddies love them some Alabama.

Biden's most truthful quote ever came during his first press conference, 03/25/21. Drum roll please...... "I don't know, to be clear." and THAT is one promise he's kept!!!

Lotsa Dinks opened up for me. Cobras and Phantoms always had the upper hand and best show.

Eric Clapton, a disappointment? You might have been brushing your teeth with Meth.
I was thinking the other day how much I used to hate Bill Clinton. He was freaking George Washington compared to what they are now.
