Gents,

A while back I was asking about Howa 1500 and Weatherby Vanguards being drop in ready for the SW 1500 walnut stocks Numerich carries. 260remguy and others verified they are.

Related question: the Vanguard Compact models I'm seeing are catalogued as a Vanguard 2 by Weatherby. Any reason the 2 doesn't drop in like its predecessor?

Should be a drop in , I would check fit around the trigger though since that is one of the changes.

Thanks, oldelk. Do you mean the in letting for the trigger mechanism itself or just the diameter for the guard has changed?

Anyone of a link to these stocks? Can’t locate it on Numrichs site.

trigger mechanism was changed from single to 2 stage so there might be subtle differences and may not even affect this.

Work the safety and if the lever makes contact with the stock, Dremel or file away the surface until it does not. I had to do that when putting a Gen 2 in a B&C stock.

Look under S&W at rifles, 1500, and part number 28.

As of 12/31/21 there are 2 different 1500 SA stocks available, one selling for $164.97, #584440C, and the one cited previously for $197.37, #584470C.

I dropped a recent production Howa 1500 into the 1700LS stock a few months ago. This Howa 1500 is a 6.5 CM that I purchased from SAS in 05/16 and has a 22" barrel that has a slightly lighter/smaller contour than the current V2's 24" barrel.

The Vanguard Compact has a 20" barrel with a lighter/smaller contour than the Howa 1500 standard 22" and V2 standard 24", so there is likely to be a gap between the barrel and stock that will make it fully free-floated.

I have youth synthetic Weatherby compact stock for My Weatherby Vanguard s2 24" bbl. Fits great and interchangeable with Deluxe wood stock. I have stopped hunting so use the wood stock for target shooting. Used the composite stock for hunting cold weather with heavy clothes and coat. Accuracy was good with both stocks. The wood stock was inter changed with Smith Wesson 1500 with no alteration needed. The S&W stock was use when nicks were probable in rough hunting area. Did not try to interchange the Compact stock.
