Trying to decide between GPO Passion ED 10x42 or Athlon Cronus 10x42 UHD binos. Been recently seeing quite a few reviews on these and hearing a lot of good feedback. Over the summer I played with some GPO‘s thought they were very clear.

Before hunting season I bought a set of Leupold bx4 10x42 and don’t really like them. I figured they’d be a nice upgrade from my 15 year old Leupold Wind river cascade green rings. But at this point I’ll either go back to them or try something else at a similar price point.

Would be interested in hearing everyone’s opinion or recommendations on the matter.

The Backwoods Pursuit ranking of 26 10x binoculars has the Athlon UHD ranked 6 places higher than the Passion ED.

The Athlon Cronus G2 10x42 UHD is slightly superior to the GPO Passion ED 10x42 Binocular, however, the GPO Passion HD 10x42 is a best buy under $1,000.00 and is possibly a top 5 binocular under $2,000.00

I have 2 pair of GPO bino's - 8x32 ED's and 10x42 HD's. I'm very happy with them. Bright & rugged, they seem like a great value to me regardless of where some of the parts are made which seems to be the big beef about them on the Fire. I also had a pair of BX4 Pro Guides before the 10-42 HD's and didn't like them. The glass was good but not great for the price. The eyecups suck IMO. First hunt I used them on one froze. They weren't unusable just a PIA and Leupold did repair them but I no longer own them.

I haven't used the 10x42 ED's but the ED glass in my 8x32's is very good. When I look through the ED's and switch to the HD's it's not like the lights just came on. They're slightly better which would be expected at twice the price. It would be nice to compare the Athlon's and GPO's side by side but the only way you could probably do that is to order a pair of each and send one back after trying them out. Good Luck!
