Maybe good pre64 Winchesters and #1 or other classic rifles will be more affordable in the future if the young keep wanting plastic and large scopes.

I've had tables at gun shows for quite a while. I wish I could remember all the stupid stuff that I have heard. I've got a much thicker skin regarding comments, but every now and then someone comes up with something that is surprising to say the least. Most of the comments that have surprised me is regarding cartridges. Other comments are how one manufacturer's gun is so superior to another and it's clear the author of the statement has no experience with the gun he is putting down.
But it isn't always the guy walking around that makes the stupid statements. Sometimes it's the "authority" behind the table.

I love mine and I am giving my grandson a Rem 722. 257 Bob for his first hunting rifle. My daughter his Mom shot her first deer with it. I have a few other Roberts to give to future grandkids Jeff you might be right if that`s the case why did he not say right away in his post , with respect ?

I like my Ruger no. 1 chambered in 7x57. I’d like to add a second in 300 H&H.

Over the last two or three years a single shot has been my go to rifle. I've done custom #1's in 7/08, 300 H&H, and 300 Savage and a High Wall in 38/55. You should see the looks I get in deer camp with my single shots especially the 405 and 450/400. I took a #1 in 250 Savage to Texas last fall and shot a nice blackbuck at close to 300 yards. I believe my shooting has improved since I began using a single shot.

I believe my shooting has improved since I began using a single shot. good for you , we have 4 hunters at my camp hunting this year all of us used Ruger # 1`s , my son ,son in law ,10 yr,old grandson and myself we all like these single shot Rugers .

I'm the only one in my circle of hunting buddies that use a single shot rifle. The only difference is I shoot less but still fill my tags. The last day of late doe season I was in the blind with the 405 and several deer were feeding along the edge of the woods and a hay field 150 yards away. There were two shooter does but there was also two bucks which weren't legal targets. As the light faded I couldn't separate the bucks from the two does. Twice I had the crosshairs on a shoulder but when the deer picked up it's head it was one of the bucks. Maybe the single shot with it's low magnification scope hindered me a bit maybe not. The 405 is sighted in at 100 yards but a point of shoulder hold would have folded one but in the fading light I just enjoyed watching them and I already had filled three tags.
