Does anyone use a 20moa rail? Currently I shoot around 300 yds or less but have the opportunity to shoot out to 1000 yds. Is it worth it to buy one? My current set up is a savage high country in 308 topped with a Nikon Black fx 1000

All my rifles wear a 20moa rail when possible. Another option is Burris Signature rings with the MOA inserts.

I have a few myself.
Any adjustments below zero will not help you when you go long

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

It won’t matter at 300. At 1600, you’ll probably be glad to have it. As noted, any elevation adjustment below zero is pretty well useless. For that reason I always use get one with some inclination when mounting on a rail.

I did a little looking and found the maximum elevation adjustment for your scope listed at 60 moa. For conversational purposes let's assume you don't have to adjust the scope away from center to zero at 100 yards. This leaves you with 30 moa of up. I don't know what load you intend to shoot to 1000 yards, so consider Federal's Gold Medal Match loaded with a 175 grain Match King at a listed 2600 fps. It will need about 40 moa of up to be on at 1000. So, if you want to dial and hold center (rather than using the graduated reticle) that extra 20 moa built into the base will be necessary.

I like how rails perfectly align everything and allow for optimal scope positioning and ring spacing; but they often result in scopes with objectives under 50mm being mounted up higher than they need to be, which I've never been a fan of. Lately I've been using more Burris Xtreme 2 piece bases that are pic compatible, and Burris signature rings with the inclination inserts. This results in the scope being nice and low over the bore, and you can still maximize the scope's adjustment range with the desired outcomes for your rig.

+1 Another good option.

Stock packs can be useful when using a rail and the scope sits higher than desired.

For me a 200 yard zero and 8 moa correction is out of range.
625 yards I have killed a couple deer with 7mmRM 140 gr and 6.5-06 120 gr.

If I got a rifle with 200 moa, I would take the base off and mill it down to zero moa.

Thanks for the replies. I picked up a 20 moa rail this afternoon. Now to find time for the range.
