What is everyone seeing where you live. Are hunting rifles coming back in stock or is it still slim pickings. Here in NY it's terrible few have very many at all in there shops. Just wanted to hear from others.

Here in ND there is quite a few on the shelf. The problem being most are 6.5 creed or 300 win mag. A few others trickle in from time to time. I believe wood is extinct. Edk

Nothing worth buying, all I have is Wal-Mart and Big R stores near me. So it's Savage Axis, Ruger American, CVA Cascade, and Savage .22 rimfires. Most of the bolt action rifles are 6.5 Creedmoor and .350 Legend.

I could buy a Bergara, Browining Hells Canyon or Christenson Arms any day of the week as long as I want 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC or 300 PRC with the occasional 300 Win Mag. I guess the new "super expensive" version of the Tikka is available too in the same calibers. Around here it is "rotsa ruck" with respect to finding any short action other than a 6.5.

In North Texas, there seems to be plenty of rifles available from the homely Ruger and Savage up to Blaser. I did notice more stock prior to Christmas than there is now. Still plenty of options though. Lots of 6.5CM. They breed like rabbits.

Yeah there aint a whole lot of hunting rifles available in these parts but the few new bolt action rifles available at My area Gun stores are mostly chambered for 6.5 Creed so they are of no interest to me......Hb

Like others have stated, lots of 6.5 creedmoor, 6.5 PRC and .300 win mag. Everything from axis model through high end stuff. Not much of a choice.
It pretty depressing. I havnt bought a gun all year.

Trend here, for those wanting wood, is to buy the plastic when it's the right caliber, then get in touch with Boyd's.

If you are looking for a hunting rifle.
You can find one as long as you aren’t picky of the caliber.
If you are looking for XYZ gun in ABC caliber. You better look online.
Which is a story for another day.
When though some dealers can’t get guns in, they raised the transfer fee to $50.
I use a local guy that keeps a small gun / fishing store going. He’s retired pipeliner.
He charges $25 for a transfer. Says why keep money tied in guns in the counter when he can make easy money.

If I was serious about wanting a wood rifle stock Boyds would be one of the last places I looked. I think the stocks are serviceable, and are the only option in some cases. However, they are just as cookie cutter as most of the production rifles today.

Immediately following Christmas, my local gun shop was sold almost completely out. Sportsman's Warehouse was sparse. I don't know if they have been able to restock or not.
I was not seeing much in 6.5PRC prior to Christmas. 6.5 Creedjesus guns were most common, as was ammo for them. 6.5 PRC ammo is rare as unicorn poop.

If you want a plastic stocked Bergara or Browning in 6.5 Creedmoor you can find a hunting rifle pretty easy around here.

Local Sportsman's Warehouse has a pretty good selection of Tikka, Bergara, Christensen, and Franchi. Not much from Remington or Winchester.
Okie John
If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

My area in SWFL is not a big hunting area. More about fishing here. So hunting rifle availability has never been awesome. If you wanted something other than walmart or Bass pro production rifles you have to order it from a LGS through a distributor. And there's a lot less of those guys around that understand hunting rifles. Mostly a black rifle crowd these days.
Life can be rough on us dreamers.

The town I live in is down to one shop. Was in last week and he had 2 Savage Axis and one single shot shotgun. He will do a transfer for $50 if "he can't order the same rifle." I suspect he also will be gone shortly. Hate to see any shop go but this would be no loss.
The next closest shop is about 60 miles away. No idea what they have. We also have a Walmart that looks to have received a shipment of Patriots and other crap.

Ruger Americans, Savage Axis and Mossberg Patriots; mainly at Rural King but not a lot of them. We have a LGS that at one time advertised 1000 guns in stock, now has around 150, probably 125 of those are new guns. Very few used guns anywhere around here. Probably different in other parts of the country. I once read where maybe 75% of the guns sold by local gun shops were used guns and that’s where their business was. That was 25 years ago. Things have definitely changed.
