Has anyone used any quick-release type mounts on their BLR? I'm wondering if there are any bases that allow you to still use the open sights when the scope is removed.
It appears that the Weaver Top-Mount bases have a groove in them that would allow the open sights to be used, but I would like first some first-hand info if possible.

I have not used these on a BLR but a Winchester 70.

Talley makes bases for their QR rings for the BAR/BLR

i own a few BLR`s and you will need high to extra high to leave open sights usable and on target if you decide to put on QR rings ,

Even with the scope removed? Height of rings shouldn't make a difference if the scope is removed, right?

maybe ? do you have a BLR ? open sights on a BLR are right under the scope bell . i kinda would like to put take off rings on my take down BLR yet , for now i just used high rings and screwed down the back sight for now . my scope is a 6x -42 Leupold in a 30-06 . its my favorite BLR too and this BLR rifle does shoot well too.

Yes, I do have a BLR - lightweight gold medallion in .243. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to scope it. If I could somehow use QD rings on it where I could remove the scope and still use the open sights that would be great. Just looking at options right now.
The Weaver top-mount ones look like they have a slot milled in them.

I use these on two BLRs, a '81 Lightweight in .308 and Lightweight pistol grip in .358. I have Talley QD rings on mine holding Leupold FXIIs. I use the screw lock option, not the levers.

If I remove the scope, I can see the rear sight over the bases, but barely. I can see the rear notch and front blade well eough to be useable, but the bases do block a full view of the rear sight. My elevation is pretty depressed and if I raised it I could see the rear sight better.

I've seen plenty of BLRs with scopes with bells that sat behind the rear sight. Depends how far back you want to mount your scope in the rings. I suspect unless you have a really big bell, a set of mediums height rings would let you clear the rear sight if you needed to mount your scope over it.

Here's my .358 in Talley bases and QD rings.

Remind me what scope that is, sir. ^^^
Do you get any bothersome shadow from the front or rear sights when looking through the scope?

It's a Leupold FXII 2.5X 20mm. No, I don't see the sights in the scope at all.

I can see fine. It's a 2.5 power so it's got a reasonaly good field of view. The vast majority of hunting is short range so 2.5X is just fine for me. I also wanted to keep the weight down, so this set up does just that. With a sling, that '81 Lightweight in .308 is just a hair over 7 lbs.

Alright, I ordered some Weaver top-mount bases and an assortment of different brand and height rings to try. I will be mounting a Leupold VX3 1.5-8x36 scope on it, which is larger than I really prefer, so we will see how it turns out. I will post some pictures when I've got it like I want it.
