That’s insane. But I guess it’s one of those uncommon caliber availabilities.

But the manufacturers will ASSURE you that they have no influence on it!
Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled guns yearning to shoot free, The wretched refuse of your teeming safes and gun racks.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door of my workbench.

Thankful I can reload still. At that rate I have about 8-10 grand of 444 sitting in boxes waiting to be put together.
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

Glad I reload and cast my own bullets. That’s insane

With material, labor, and shipping costs through the roof that’s probably the new normal…

I've owned a 444 for close to 45 years now. 444 has always been a expensive round. I have about 3 1/2 boxes on the shelf. I don't shoot it a lot so I'm good for a long time.

I was at a national chain “ outfitter” the other day. Damn near everything on the shelf was at least $2 a round and the more uncommon calibers were at least $4 a round. As a example a 20 round box of .264 win mag was $89.99 and 10% tax!
If you don’t have ammo for your rifles it’s becoming really difficult to take the youngsters shooting and making them proficient with there hunting rifles.

Those are $38.99 at the local feed store by my house. They have 20-25 boxes that have been there for weeks.

Good timing with this thread , I stopped at the LGS today and they had one box of new old stock 444 for $54.99 and I thought about grabbing them just because but didn’t. Came home and counted the boxes in the safe (13) and reload components for another five boxes. Now it’s seems like a good deal , maybe I’ll grab them Monday…

Just for kicks I put one in the cart and they add $12 more dollars for flat shipping running it up to almost $5 a round not to mention if you buy 1 box of this and spend $120.95 more they will give free shipping LMAO but you can buy 100 rounds of 50BMG for half of what 444 will cost you per round....doesn't make sense....LMAO

I won't bother to join the palaver about degraded money and artificial scarcities,,,I'll just leave this here ; ; ; "Ammunition is a highly concentrated industry. There are many ammo brands, like CCI, Federal, Remington, Winchester, and Speer, but they are all controlled by two firms - Vista Outdoor and the Olin Corporation. As Elle Ekman wrote in the American Prospect, Vista and Olin rolled up the industry through mergers, as well as taking advantage of the privatization of government facilities making ammunition and government contracts." more : https://mattstoller.substack.com/p/concentrated-firepower-what-high
